Site notes
The CARIACO Punta de Piedras Coastal Station is physically located on Margarita Island (Caribbean) at 10° 54.002' N' (10.900° N) and 64° 6.625' W (64.110 ' W) on a platform just of off a pier.
Mounted on the platform is an instrument tower which houses: Wind Speed/Direction, Relative Humidity/Air Temperature, Barometric Pressure, Solar Radiation, and Precipitation sensors. Marine instrumentation includes Water Level, Temperature, and Salinity. Data are transmitted hourly via the GOES East satellite. Site funding is via the Carbon Retention In A Colored Ocean Project (CARIACO), a cooperative effort between the University of South Florida's/College of Marine Science (USF/CMS), Estación Investigaciones Marinas de Margarita (EDIMAR), and Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB). This site became an operational CARIACO coastal station on 6/2/2006.
