Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System (COMPS)

    Tampa Bay PORTS

    Remote Sensing Group at USF

      http://paria.marine.usf.edu/
Our research activities focus on the analysis of digital data obtained by satellite and airborne sensors, and on the development of applications of these data at local, regional, and global scales. The main objective is to provide a better understanding of the world oceans on a large spatial and temporal scale.

Real-Time Nowcast/Forecast System for the Gulf of Mexico

    http://www-ccar.colorado.edu/~jkchoi/gomforecast.html
J.-K. Choi and L. H. Kantha, University of Colorado This web page contains a real time nowcast/forecast system for the Gulf of Mexico, the objective being the accurate prediction of currents in the Gulf for use by offshore operations. The Loop Current front and the Loop Current eddies are of particular interest. The model used is the CU version of the sigma coordinate Princeton Ocean Model, with assimilation of real time remotely-sensed oceanic data. TOPEX and ERS-2 altimetric SSH anomalies are assimilated track-by-track into the model by conversion into pseudo-BT anomalies. MCSST is not assimilated at present. This particular model has 1/5o resolution in the horizontal and 21 levels in the vertical. The nowcast/forecasts are updated every 30 days. The web page displays results of both the previous and current nowcast/forecasts and has links to additional resources for the Gulf. Time series of currents at pre-selected points are also shown.

The Gulf of Mexico Information Network (GIN) is a developmental effort designed to make Gulf of Mexico ecosystem data and information readily available and to facilitate communications between parties involved in Gulf of Mexico projects and programs. This home page resides on the Pelican Server at the Gulf of Mexico Program Office, John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.
