Site notes The COMPS Tarpon Springs station is physically located within the municipal marina near the historic sponge docks at 28° 09.341' N (28.156 N) and 82° 45.476' W (82.758 W). Instrumentation (mounted along the east side of the Harbor Master's building) monitors Wind Speed/Direction, Relative Humidity/Air Temperature, Barometric Pressure, Precipitation, and Water Level. Data is hourly transmitted via the GOES satellite for internet posting as well as radio modemed directly to the Tarpon Springs Fire Department. Site funding is via a cooperative effort between the Tarpon Springs Fire Department and the University of South Florida's/College of Marine Science. This site became an operational COMPS coastal station on 2/12/2001.
