Site notes
The Hillsborough River station is physically located on the University of
Tampa's floating dock at 27° 56.934' N (27.949 N) and 82° 27.840' W
(82.464 W). There is a rain guage mounted on top of the aluminum
electronics enclosure. Marine instrumentation includes water temperature,
salinity and nitrate. A Satlantic ISUS sensor is used to monitor the
concentration of nitrate. A particular attribute unique to this nitrate
sensor is that no chemical manipulations are necessary. The nitrate
concentration is determined by deconvoluting the ultraviolet absorption
spectrum of the seawater. Data from the site is transmitted via the GOES
satellite. Site funding is via the University of South Florida Center for
Excellence and Office of Naval Research. For more details on the ISUS
sensor, please contact Kent A. Fanning (kaf@marine.usf.edu) and Rob
Masserini (masserin@marine.usf.edu), Oceanic Nutrient Laboratory
(http://www.marine.usf.edu/nutrients/), USF. The site became an
operational coastal station on 12/19/2008.

Latest Observations
Meteorological and Water Temperature Measurements are made every 6 minutes and are downloaded hourly via GOES satellite. The ISUS (Nitrate) data measurements are made every 30 minute and are downloaded hourly via GOES satellite. Time reported is UTC (Coordinated
Universal Time): subtract 5 hours for EST, subtract 4 hours for EDT.
